Google recently confirmed that it’s adding plenty of new features to Android Wear smartwatches in the coming weeks. It’s going to release a new firmware update that should bring Wi-Fi support and more. The company updated its Android app for Android Wear ahead of that launch.
Users will mostly find that it has been tweaked with Material Design updates, which you can see in the gallery above snapped by Android Central, but there are some other new features, too. Android Wear settings are now front and center on the main page, Android Central said, and you’ll have the option to choose the default calendar that provides alerts to your watch.
A new cloud sync feature won’t work yet, but once the full Android Wear update with Wi-Fi support is enabled, it will allow you to receive notifications over Wi-Fi, even if your phone is out of Bluetooth range. Finally, the app shows tips and recommended apps.
Google hasn’t said specifically when the Android Wear update will start to hit smartwatches, though it’s expected to start with the LG Watch Urbane. You can prepare for it by installing the latest Android app now, though it seems to be rolling out in stages as it is not available on our Galaxy Note 4 just yet.
