Samsung said to launch two new Tizen phones

tizen-1-640x524It took a long time for Samsung to launch its first Tizen smartphone, but it looks like the company may already be gearing up to launch two more models. ZDNet Koreareports that the Samsung Z1 could soon be joined by the Z2 along with an unnamed global handset.
The upcoming Z2 should be a small step-up from the Z1. It apparently packs a 960 x 540-pixel display, a 2000mAh battery, a quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. It’s expected to launch in the first half of 2015, but will be limited to India and a few other markets like its predecessor.
There’s also the first global Tizen phone, which will apparently launch in the U.S., Korea, Russia, China, India, France, Malaysia and India. This model could come equipped with a 4.8-inch 720p AMOLED display, a 2600mAh battery, an 8-megapixel camera and 2GB of RAM. That’s not bad for an entry-level phone, though it’s still no match for Samsung’s flagships.
Samsung’s strategy for Tizen seems to be as focused on low prices as it is on its own operating system. If the company can grab a decent slice of that market, it may stand a chance against Android’s crushing dominance.
