LG device rolls through the FCC, looks like a new G4 variant

Documents for a new LG device have appeared on the FCC's website yesterday with the product number "H815PX". The LG G4's product number for the South American and South African variant is "H815P".
It is not clear why LG would keep the "815**" code since the US variants use the numbers "H810", and "H811" for AT&T and T-Mobile, respectively, while Sprint and Verizon models don't even start with "H" but "LS" and "VS".
The original launch of the LG G4 did not include wireless charging out of the box, rather, an optional charging cover was required to use this feature. These FCC documents show wireless charging as a major feature of this device. Could this be a variant of the LG G4 with wireless charging out of the box coming out in time for the holiday season?
Could this even be the LG G5? Unlikely - perhaps this is just a refresh of the LG G4 and not even a brand new phone. We just don't see how this can be an LG G5 when the product number on the documents is so close to the original G4's "H815" released back in April of this year.
At this point, for all we know this could even be an LG V10 variant. There isn't any way of knowing until LG sends out invitations for an event or carriers start selling new variants of the same phone.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow rolling out to LG G4 in South Korea

LG started rolling out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to the G4 smartphone in Poland last month, and now the update has begun hitting the flagship device in the company's home country of South Korea.
Poland isn't particularly a major market for the company, so last month's roll out there was essentially a test run. And with Android 6.0 now rolling out in a main region like South Korea, it looks like LG didn't face any major issues with the update in the European country.
In South Korea, G4 devices with model numbers LG-F500K, LG-F500L, and LG-F500S are currently getting the update, which brings features like the new Doze mode that helps save your device's battery, better permissions management and microSD support, and more. A couple of LG apps - Q+ and Bridge - have also been renamed to Memo Capture + and AirDrive, respectively.
There's currently no information on which regions will be getting the update next.

Oppo R7 Plus goes up for pre-order in the United States

Oppo’s R7 Plus phablet is now available for pre-order in the United States directly from the company’s online store. The handset is priced at $499, though interested parties can order one with 10% by using an email promo code.
The device is available in gold color scheme and will come with free Bluetooth headset. Pre-orders are expected to begin shipping by the end of this month.
Oppo R7 Plus features 6” 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 13MP camera, 8MP front-facing unit, fingerprint sensor, and massive 4,100 mAh battery. The phablet boots ColorOS 2.1 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop and does not support US LTE bands.
Even with 10% at launch, we find the US pricing of the R7 Plus overly ambitious due to its mostly mid-range specs. Such budget can currently land you a Moto X Style, LG G4, andNexus 6 among others, so you must really want an R7 Plus in order to splurge for it.

AT&T LG G4 receiving mysterious OTA update

The LG G4 on AT&T has started receiving a mysterious OTA update that auto-installs without permission, according to reports on Reddit and Twitter.
Some users complained that they were in the middle of a call when the update happened, forcing their device to reboot without any prompt or warning. While initially it wasn't clear who (AT&T or LG) pushed the update, the carrier later confirmed that they are the source.
There is, however, no official word on what changes the update brings along, although it is being claimed that it fixes a bug that prevents the G4 from connecting to a 5GHz Wi-Fi network.

Motorola takes a shot at LG following the G4 announcement

A large portion of LG’s G4 presentation on Tuesday was spent talking about design. Specifically, LG’s use and tanning of the device’s removable leather backs. But they’re not just any leather backs—LG said it used materials and processes usually reserved for luxury handbags, which gives you an idea of how much effort goes into a single rear panel. In fact, the entire process takes about 3 months—3 months!
You know which other company has been utilizing leather in its phones? Motorola. In response to today’s G4 announcement, the Lenovo-owned company Tweeted out a passive-aggressive insult LG’s way, saying it has been using Horween leather since last year. Boom, shots fired.

As we found out in our own testing last year, the Moto X’s leather actually gets better the more it gets beat up and wears in. Of course, that’s a subjective opinion, but the main point is this: LG isn’t the first to use leather in its phone, and probably won’t be the last. Our devices are quickly becoming fashion accessories, a reflection of our styles and personalities, so it’s no surprise to see companies take advantage of the more premium material. It can’t be any more different than aluminum, that’s for sure.
We already got our hands on the G4, so check that out to learn more about LG’s new device, which is about both beauty and brains.
