OPPO R7 Lite goes official with 720p screen and Lollipop

Oppo has quietly listed a new addition to the R7 family, and it now includes the brand new R7 Lite. Identical to the R7 on the outside, the Lite brings a few hardware downgrades, and a due price reduction.

The most readily noticeable change is the display resolution, which is 1,280x720 pixels for the Lite, compared to the R7's FullHD. At 294ppi, the pixel density is still okay, and it is again an AMOLED panel. RAM has been reduced to 2GB, and that's about it.

You still get the Snapdragon 615 chipset, 16GB of built-in storage, which can be expanded, and the 13MP/8MP camera combo. A VOOC charger is in the bundle too, to fill up the same 2,320mAh battery.

Oddly enough, the R7 Lite comes with an Android 5.1-based build of Color OS 2.1, while the regular R7 was launched on KitKat, and is still waiting for a Lollipop update. So the Lite actually has the upper hand here.

Although Oppo's official online store Oppostyle.com doesn't list the R7 Lite just yet, the smartphone has shown up on an Indonesian retailer's stock. The R7 Lite is listed at IDR 4,999,000 ($280), whereas the R7 is IDR 3,999,000 ($350).

Meanwhile, Oppo sells the R7 for €350 in Europe or $400 in the US and the rest of the world. So the R7 Lite could be expected to cost €280 in Europe and $320 elsewhere, when it makes it to more markets.

Oppo addresses R7 rumors with official renders, specs

Oppo R7 has really been a constant presence in the rumor mill, especially the last few days. A lot of users are excited about the prospect of an edge-to-edge, curved screen, but some new official information might leave a lot of them disappointed.

It appears Oppo has decided to stop the rumor madness around the upcoming R7 and has sent us some official information about the device, which debunks most of the previous rumors and speculations. Judging from a set of official renders of the device, we can safely say, that the display is not what we expected. It is also worth noting that the images are concept renders and as such, might not be entirely accurate. Apparently, the R7 won't come with a curved, edge-to-edge display, like a recent Oppo patent and a lot of alleged videos and photos have been suggesting. Don't get disappointed though - the bezelless phone might still be in the making, just under a different name.

Either way, the Oppo R7 will have a rather traditional-looking display, complete with some bezels. The overlaying glass does feature a 2.5D effect, but no actual edge can be seen. Actually, we did have at least one leak that was close to the actual thing. The Oppo R7, might not be the curved screen phone most were waiting for, but it does still have its merits.

The device does look quite thin, perhaps even another record-holder and beautifully crafted with a metal frame and what appears to be a glass back. It is also worth noting that the camera is not protruding, which is not the case with most similarly slim handsets. This, however might suggest that the camera isn't quite as capable as the ones on the Galaxy S6 or the One M9, but, we can’t really know for sure, before Oppo gives us some more insight.

The promotional materials also make another thing clear - the upcoming R7 will feature the company's own VOOC fast-changing technology. This was more than expected, seeing how Oppo has really left the competition in the dust in this department, as confirmed by our Fast charging in-depth review.

As far as specs on the R7 go, we still have only rumors to go by, which, given the current situation, we are a lot more inclined to question as well.

In the past it has been said that the R7 should sport a MediaTek MT6795 SoC with octa-core CPU, as well as a 20.7 MP rear camera. 4G LTE support should be on board as well.

Bezelless Oppo R7 and R7 Plus might be unveiled on May 20

The upcoming Oppo R7 has been leaking a lot lately, as it's apparently going to feature a pretty unique 'bezelless' touchscreen. Unique, that is, if you don't count the also oft-leaked ZTE Nubia Z9, which will supposedly use a display with minimal lateral bezels as well.

One thing we haven't found out so far is when we should expect Oppo to finally make the R7 official. Today a new rumor out of China claims the big unveiling will happen on May 20 (which incidentally is exactly two weeks after the Nubia Z9 will be outed).

Furthermore, Oppo is apparently going to present an R7 Plus model alongside the R7. Not much is known right now about the Plus version, but we assume it will be bigger than the vanilla R7. Thus it should fit a higher capacity battery, which should allow for increased autonomy.

On the other hand, because of its thin (under 5mm) profile and 4.7-inch screen, the Oppo R7 will only fit a 2,000 mAh battery. Its display resolution is set to be 1080p, and there will be some 2.5D glass on top creating that 'bezelless' effect. It's unclear if we'll find the same tech on the R7 Plus as well.

The Oppo R7 is said to feature a 20.7 MP rear camera, and should be powered by MediaTek's 64-bit MT6795 chipset coming with an octa-core processor.

Alleged Oppo R7 shows up in renders, contains traces of bezels

The upcoming Oppo bezelless flagship has been showing up in live videos lately with some consistency as to its design. However, a new render now claims that the Oppo R7 will look nothing like, instead boasting a crazy thin profile and yes, some bezels.

The design of smartphone in the image shows a marked resemblance to the iPhone 6, even down to the screen size, which the source claims to be 4.7 inches. That would be a step back from the 5.2 inches of the Oppo R5, and should raise the first flag of suspicion as to the image's authenticity.

Possibly the most striking feature is the smartphone's slim waistline, but with Oppo's history of making thin devices (the R5 briefly held the crown for thinnest smartphone), it wouldn't be all that surprising if the company tries to shave off a fraction of a millimeter in the future device.

A careful observer will notice that in the render the camera lens sits flush with the back panel, a design deemed impossible in such thin devices by industry heavyweights. That, along with multiple videos and photos of people actually holding a working bezelless device, should be enough of an indication the image we're looking at is either an artist's vision of the R7, or an entirely different device.

On the other hand while it has been assumed that the bezelless device will carry the R7 name, it hasn't exactly been set in stone. So in the end we may get both the crazy slim phone pictured above, and the other one with the display stretching from edge to edge. We'll need to play the waiting game a little while longer to find out.

Video shows how the Oppo R7 pulls off its bezel-less trick

The bezel-less Oppo R7 is back with another video, this one is a bit over a minute long so it gives us a better look at the upcoming flagship. The Oppo R7's claim to fame is that the 5.5" screen has near-invisible bezels on the side.

Curved glass above the screen refracts light just the right way to mask what little bezel there is on the left and right side. You can see a close up of that at the end of the video

Before that, the video features a short demo of the customized Android interface. The R7 will be powered by a MediaTek MT6795 with octa-core, 64-bit CPU and it will have a 20.7MP camera on its back.

Upcoming 'bezelless' Oppo R7 smiles in new images, video

The Nubia Z9 that ZTE will unveil on May 6 won't be the only upcoming smartphone from China to boast a 'bezelless' display. The oft-leaked Oppo R7 will have this same feature, practically coming with no side bezels on its screen.

The R7 has been shown in live images before (even a video), but now new ones have been leaked. And just like past occurrences, that lack of bezels really draws one's attention.

The pictures sadly don't come with specs attached, but in the past it has been said that the R7 should sport a MediaTek MT6795 SoC with octa-core CPU, as well as a 20.7 MP rear camera. 4G LTE support is to be in as well.

To create the 'bezelless' effect, Oppo is using some patented tech it developed last year. The Oppo R7 might be a very slim handset, following in the footsteps of the R5, which for a while was the world's thinnest smartphone.

Then again, the name R7 hasn't been confirmed in any way, so this 'bezelless' handset might end up being sold under a completely different moniker. At the rate we're currently seeing leaks about it, though, it could get official pretty soon.

More alleged photos of Oppo R7 make the rounds on Twitter

More alleged photos of the unannounced Oppo R7 made the rounds on Twitter. The ultra-thin successor of Oppo R5 is expected to launch at some point in the near future.

Once again, the purported images reveal that the upcoming handset will feature a screen with no bezels. That’s right in line with a leaked video of the smartphone from last month.

Rumored specs of Oppo R7 include MediaTek MT6795 chipset and 20.7MP main camera. The device’s bezelless screen utilizes patented technology from Oppo.

Leaked video shows the bezelless OPPO R7 in action

Just yesterday, we reported about the first images of Oppo's bezelless phone spotted in the flesh. Now the same source brings us more intel on the yet unofficial device. We get a couple of new images, a video and an alleged name for the handset - R7.

The video is showing the OPPO R7 in action, lending more credibility to the whole leak. In the video, the user shows quick functions of the new Music player and the Video player.

As noted earlier, the OPPO R7 smartphone is set to arrive with an octa-core MediaTek MT6795 mobile chipset and a 20.7MP rear camera.
