Sony Xperia Z3 is surprisingly back in stock at T-Mobile

Earlier this month T-Mobile decided to discontinue the Sony Xperia Z3, after less than six months since its debut at the magenta carrier. At that point, there was no explanation given - the phone simply vanished from TMo's website.

Today, though, the exact opposite has happened. Namely, the Xperia Z3 is once again up for grabs from T-Mobile. Again, there's no explanation for these moves, the handset just showed up in the carrier's online store.
Furthermore, it's now a lot cheaper than it used to be. So that will be good news for prospective buyers. The full price you need to pay for the Xperia Z3 is $499.92, down from the previous level of $630.
If you choose to use T-Mobile's installment plan, then you pay nothing upfront, followed by 24 monthly payments of $20.83. As always, if you cancel wireless service the remaining balance on the phone becomes due.
Sony has already announced the Xperia Z4, but that device may only be launched in the Japanese market. And it's not even a huge upgrade compared to its predecessor, so the Z3 is still a pretty good buy.

Sony Xperia Z4 Compact, Z4 Ultra spotted in certification list

The alleged successors of Sony Xperia Z3 Compact (D5800 series) and Xperia Z Ultra (C6800 series) were spotted in an Indonesian Telecom regulatory list. Based on the certification dates, the Xperia Z4 Compact and Xperia Z4 Ultra are expected to debut in the near future.
Sony E5803 model number corresponds with the successor of the Z3 Compact D5803 and will likely be dubbed Xperia Z4 Compact. Similarly, E6683 and E6883 model numbers could be the follow up to the Xperia Z Ultra C6683/C6803.
Two days ago, Sony quietly announced its flagship smartphone Xperia Z4 in Japan. We have a reason to believe that one more flagship smartphone might be released later this year.

New leaked renders might showcase the Xperia Z3 Neo

The plot continues to thicken around Sony's long-overdue Xperia Z4 flagship. Rumors about the handset are still plentiful, but despite the vigorous talk of a metal unibody and a fingerprint sensor, recent rumors have thrown a major curve ball into the saga and its name is the Sony Xperia Z3 Neo.
There has been a lot of speculation around the new Neo model, mostly, that it is next in line for a release in just a few hours on April 20 with the eagerly-anticipated Xperia Z4 postponed once again, or perhaps even indefinitely. Other speculations have stated that what we thought was the Z4 will actually turn out to be the Z3 Neo, with a model number E6553, leaving us to wonder what to think of the sea of recent Z4 leaks.

A new set of leaked internal renders now claim to showcase the Z3 Neo, but at this point, we can’t really be sure what we are looking at. Furthermore, one of them is clearly annotated as "Xperia Z The fourth Generation", perplexing us even further. In any case, the handset in the three pictures is airily similar to the current Xperia Z3, but frankly, that was all but expected. Looking at the renders closely, however, we do detect minor changes, like the absence of a flap on the right side of the device, but generally, the Sony design is all but intact.
Whatever this device may be, we still hope that an unveiling will take place on April 20. Also, we can't really be sure if our previous information concerts the Xperia Z4, Z3 Neo, both or none of them, for that matter, but rumors state the next Sony device will pack a 5.2" screen (either 1080p or QHD). The specs sheet should also include a Snapdragon 810 chipset with 4GB of RAM, the usual 20.7MP camera and the IP68 waterproofing.

Lollipop now out for Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact, Z3 Dual, Z Ultra

After a very slow start, Sony is now adding more and more devices to the Lollipop update list every other week or so. The company may have been late to the Lollipop game, but at least it's releasing new software at a decent pace.
The latest handsets to be graced with the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop are the Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact,Z3 Dual, and Z Ultra. The screenshot you can see on the left depicts the update notification received by Xperia Z1 Compact owners in Italy.
For that particular model the download size is 738MB, and you need to have at least 1.2GB of free space on your internal memory before attempting to update. The whole procedure should take around 20 minutes.
After applying the update you'll be on build version 14.5.A.0.242. Obviously, these details could slightly differ for the rest of the aforementioned devices, but the rollouts for all of them have started today.
Next week, Lollipop is headed to Sony's Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3 (as well as their dual-SIM versions). After that, "in a few weeks time" the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, and Xperia Tablet Z will be updated.
Thanks for the tip, Ener!

Sony Xperia Z3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update now rolling out OTA

Sony confirmed last year that the Xperia Z3 would receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, and now we know when: right now. After previously confirming the update for this week, the over-the-air (OTA) Android 5.0 update is rolling out as we speak. See below for all the details on the Sony Xperia Z3 Android update.

Update: The Sony Mobile official blog announced the rollout of Android 5.0 for the Xperia Z3 and Xpeira Z3 Compact.  Sony confirmed the Nordic and Baltic countries will be the first to see the update, with other markets to follow. Here's the changelog according to Sony:
  • Fresh, streamlined looks – based on Google’s material design, but retaining our minimalistic approach to interface and application design
  • New look notifications and lock screen – with fully customizable settings, so you only get the information you really need
  • Multi user profiles and guest mode – making it easy for family and friends to use your device, or the creation of dual environments for work and play…
  • Android for Work – not only are business-ready Xperia smartphones and tablets unique devices for work – with waterproof form factors, great battery life and productivity features – they will now also be part of the Android for Work ecosystem
  • Better storage control and customisation – with the option to easily move applications from internal memory to SD card – giving you more control over your content, particularly useful for devices with slightly less space
In early March, Sony Mobile Indonesia (via Xperia blog) claimed the update would arrive the week beginning Monday, March 16, which has turned out to be entirely accurate. While this news is specific to Indonesia, we know that the software has been finalized and that this will pave the way for a release shortly after in Europe, with the US following later.
The 1.2 GB update is packed with content including the new Material Design look, multi-user support, an improved lock-screen and storage optimizations to make external SD card transfers easier.
We'll keep you up-to-date with the Xperia update news as we learn more, but we hope to see it landing OTA in the rest of Europe before the end of March. As soon as we hear some whispers on the T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and Sprint updates we'll let you know too.
Are you excited to get the Lollipop update for your Xperia?

Sony Xperia Z2, Z2 Tablet and Z3 Tablet Compact receiving Lollipop

Sony is rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, now the older Xperia Z2 flagship is joining the party. Sony is renovating the software of the Xperia Z2 Tablet and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact as well.
For now the Sony Xperia Z2 (D65XX) is receiving Android 5.0.2 (build 23.1.A.0.690) in the Nordic and Baltic regions.

The two tablets are getting the same software. That's the Wi-Fi only (SGP611, SGP612) and LTE (SGP621) versions of the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. The rollout for the older Xperia Z2 Tablet is a bit slower, with the Wi-Fi only 32GB variant (SGP512) standing by as the 16GB LTE and Wi-Fi (SGP521 and SGP511) are pulling in the update.

People on the XDA-Developer sub-forums for these Xperias are already reporting success with installing the update.
