Samsung Z1 sales cross 500,000 mark in India

Samsung's only Tizen-based smartphone, the Z1, has performed better than expected, according to a latest report out of South Korea.

As per the report, the company has sold over 500,000 units of the device in India since launch, which happened back in January this year. Aside from India, the handset is also available in Bangladesh, where it has captured 23.4% of the smartphone market.

Riding high on the success of the Z1, Samsung is gearing up to unveil another Tizen-powered smartphone (possibly the Z2), which will be launched in Russia, China, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka, the report notes.

Latest Samsung Z1 OTA update brings new WhatsApp shortcut

Samsung's Tizen-based Z1 smartphone, which went on sale in India back in January this year, has received a fresh over-the-air (OTA) update.

Sized at 17.3MB, the update carries build number Z130HDDU0BOD7, and brings along several bug fixes, improvements, as well as a new WhatsApp shortcut (details in the image above). The update is reportedly only available in India at the moment.

This is the second update that the Z1 has received in less than a month - the last update carrying build number Z130HDDU0BOC7 was primarily a bug-fix or performance update.

Rumor details Samsung Z1 successor and global Tizen model

According to a new report, Samsung is hard at work on the Z1 smartphone with Tizen OS on board. The Korean giant is also said to be developing a global Tizen smartphone, which will be available in key markets such as the United States, China, Korea, and EU among others.

Samsung Z2 will reportedly feature a 32-bit quad-core CPU, a gig of RAM, and 2,000mAh battery. In line with past rumors, the device is said to pack a qHD TFT-LCD display.The device is tipped to debut in the first half of this year with new Tizen 3.0 UI.

The company’s global Tizen smartphone will allegedly 4.8” 720p display, 2GB of RAM, and 8MP main camera. A 2,600mAh battery will power the smartphone.

A successor of Samsung Z1 should hardly catch anyone by surprise - the affordable smartphone has done quite well since its launch in India and Bangladesh. We will keep an eye out for more info on both rumored devices going forward.

Samsung Z1 gets another OTA update

Samsung's Tizen-based Z1 smartphone, which went on sale in India back in January this year, has received another over-the-air (OTA) update.

Sized at 26.9MB, the update has build number Z130HDDU0BOC7 and brings Tizen to version 2.3.0.1. Given the size of the update as well as the fact that there is no change log available for it, it's safe to assume that it is primarily a bug-fix or performance update.

However, there have been reports that the update has brought along the ability to download Asphalt 8 game updates using cellular data - it was previously restricted to WiFi only.
