Nokia RM-1106 may be the Lumia 940 with a 5.2-inch 1080p screen

A "Nokia" RM-1106 was uncovered in GFX Bench, a handset with a 5.2" screen and a brand new chipset. There's a decent chance this is the Microsoft Lumia 940, though the detection software messed up more than the manufacturer name.

One thing it should have gotten correct contradicts the rumors for a QHD display, instead pointing to a 5.2" 1080p screen. The image below shows the 2.5D glass with beveled edges for a Nokia prototype (again, probably Microsoft). It's not clear which model though, could be the Lumia 940, could be something else.

The Nokia RM-1106 specs show a 17MP camera (likely a 20MP sensor in 16:9 mode) with 2160p video recording. The selfie camera is a 5MP/1080p shooter.

The chipset is a bit suspicious – it lists a hexa-core processor, just like the rumors claim, but also an Adreno 430 GPU. Currently, the 430 is only found in the Snapdragon 810 (which has an octa-core processor). GFX detects the GPU of the LG G4 correctly, so this could be an unannounced chipset combining the best parts of Snapdragon 810 and 808. Or it could just be a mistake.

RAM is listed as 1.5GB, which means 2GB total. We were expecting 3GB and the rumors were promising as much. Available storage is 27GB left over from 32GB total.

Lumia 940 might come with 5.2-inch display, 25MP cam

Microsoft is expected to announce Lumia 940 later this year and it should be the next Lumia flagship replacing the dated Lumia 930 model. We are yet to learn Microsoft's announcement plans, but we can shed some light on the possible specs.

According to the latest report the Microsoft Lumia 940 may pack a 5.2" display, while its Lumia 940 XL sibling will bump the screen estate up to 5.7". The upcoming Windows 10 supports high-end processors, so Microsoft is expected to go after a flagship chipset with an octa-core CPU. Finally, the rear camera will get a new higher resolution 24 or 25 MP sensor, while the front one will be upgraded with a 5 or 8 MP one.

Other details of the rumored Lumia 940 include native pen support, iris scanning capabilities and 3D-like interactions. Nokia has been working on the latter for a while before Microsoft's acquisition and Microsoft is prepping a revolution of its own, so this time around those long-postponed innovative feature may finally come to life.

The next Microsoft Lumia flagship, most probably Lumia 940, should run natively on Windows 10 and could be announced as early as April 29 at the BUILD conference. We also expect to Microsoft to debut two new mid-range phone as rumored before and one of the could be a dual-SIM flavor of the Lumia 830 as the today's report suggests.

Microsoft working on two flagships and two midrangers

Recently Microsoft's mobile division has unveiled quite a few lower-midrange smartphones, such as the Lumia 640 and 640XL, Lumia 540, and Lumia 430. But the company is reportedly also working on higher-end offerings for the future.

Two of these will be flagships when they launch. Although it's unclear what names they will be sold under, we'll call them Lumia 940 and Lumia 940XL. The former should sport a 5-inch touchscreen, while the latter will be a 5.7-inch phablet.

Otherwise, though, their specs could be almost identical, with a 24-25 MP rear camera, a 5 MP (or higher-res) front snapper, and native pen support. These devices will launch running Windows 10. As that version of the OS supports hexa-core and octa-core CPUs, perhaps such a part will end up being used in the 940 and 940XL.

Today's rumor doesn't have any exact details about their screen resolutions or chipsets, but it does mention that Microsoft is pushing for bleeding-edge specs for these handsets. They may also get some interesting-sounding features such as 3D interaction and iris scanning.

Since Microsoft may push Windows 10 for phones to vendors by the end of Q2, these smartphones may be unveiled in early Q3.

Moving on, there's also said to be a sort of Lumia 830 successor in the works - let's call it 840 for now. This will come with a 13 to 14 MP PureView main camera, a 5 MP front-facing unit, a screen around 5 inches in size, and a better processor compared to the Lumia 830. It will get a similar design to its predecessor though.

Another midranger could be the Lumia 740XL, with a 5.5" or 5.7" display, and similar cameras to the aforementioned Lumia 840 but sans PureView branding. Once again, the name is just tentative, as the source of this information isn't sure exactly what each of these handsets will end up being called.
