Huawei P8 Lite goes up for pre-order in Germany for €249

It looks like Huawei might release the unannounced P8 Lite after all. The mid-range sibling of Huawei P8 and P8max appeared for pre-order in Germany with €249 price tag.

The smartphone is available to order in black and silver/gold color scheme. According to the retail listing, the Huawei P8 Lite will begin shipping to customers on May 15.

As its name suggests, Huawei P8 Lite is a toned down version of the recently announced P8 flagship. Its specs include 5” 720p IPS display, Kirin 620 SoC with octa-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, 13MP main camera, and 5MP front-facing unit,

Huawei's P8 smartphone sells out at launch

Huawei's P8 smartphone, which was announced by the company last week, has sold out on its first day of release - the device was launched yesterday in China, where it was made available through the company's online shop Vmall for a price tag of 3,588 CNY ($579).

Specs-wise, the handset is powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 930 chipset and sports a 5.2-inch 1080p display. It comes with 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, and packs in a 2680 mAh battery. In terms of camera, the P8 features a 13 MP rear unit and an 8 MP front shooter. The 6.4 mm-thin device runs Android 5.0 Lollipop with Huawei's EMUI 3.1 interface on top.

The smartphone, which is expected to be released worldwide in May, will cost €499 in Europe, and should set you back around $500 in the US.

ZTE sues Huawei over P8 and X2 camera patents

Huawei announced the P8 flagship last week and it packed innovative camera technology. Or did it – ZTE's Nubia division has filed a lawsuit against Huawei, alleging that the Huawei P8 and MediaPad X2 infringe on two patents owned by ZTE.

The first one is "Slow Shutter and Capture technology," which presumably relates to the light painting option in Huawei's camera. The second patent is more vague, "Imaging and Mobile terminal tech" (note that Google Translate often calls phones "terminals").

ZTE is asking Huawei to stop the manufacture on the infringing devices.

Huawei Honor 7 and Honor 7 Plus leak

Huawei, being the industry giant it is, is apparently not content with having just the P8 and P8  Max flagship pair out there and is working on another high end duo to represent the Honor brand. Rumor has it that there will be a larger Honor 7 Plus model and a more compact vanilla Honor 7.

From the images we've got it appears that the two devices will look rather different. The Honor 7 Plus is reported to sport a fingerprint sensor under its main camera on the back in an arrangement similar to the existing Huawei Ascend Mate7 phablet. Both the Honor badge and the overall design suggest that the pictured device might be the real thing.

Display size is expected to be 5.5 inches and screen resolution is more than likely going to be FullHD. The list of rumored specs goes on with an in-house Kirin 930 or 935 chipset, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.

Meanwhile what is allegedly the regular Honor 7 model sports a dual-camera arrangement on the back, not unlike the currently available Honor 6 Plus. While on the Honor 6 Plus the two cameras are created equal, the Honor 7 seems to put an emphasis on one more than the other, possibly with a difference in aperture in favor of the bulkier one.

Now, this one has a few design clues borrowed from the Ascend G7, so it may end up being a continuation of that lineup, for all we know. No specs have been revealed on this second device.

Obviously, you should take all this info with a pinch of salt, as the Honor 7 and Honor 7 Plus are new to the rumor mill and all of the above may change as the the smartphones are being developed.

Huawei P8 has a 6.4mm all-metal unibody, 5.2-inch screen

The Huawei P8 was brought up on stage by the company's CEO who wants to ignite "infinite creativity" among users. The new flagship follows in the footsteps of its predecessors with a metal frame and a 6.4mm thick body.

The design focuses on a modern, premium build with a full-metal unibody (unlike the metal and glass build of previos models). It takes 810 minutes to craft the body out of aluminum. Special nano-coating makes the phone splashproof, guarding it against accidental damage.

The Huawei P8 has bigger 5.2" 1080p display though thanks to narrow bezels keeps the phone compact. The screen takes up 78.3% of the front, wasting less space on bezels than the Galaxy S6 and the like.

Huawei introduced a unique new way to interact with the touchscreen - using your knuckles. You can double tap or just crop a part of the screen to grab a screenshot. This kind of functionality is usually reserved for a stylus. Anyway, the phone runs Emotion UI 3.1 built on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The camera on the P8 utilizes what's allegedly the world's first 13MP phone camera sensor capturing light in RGBW (red-green-blue-white) pattern. This will help the camera in the low-light, but the 13MP camera also features optical image stabilization. It can offset vibrations with an angle of up to 1.6°, which is reportedly, double what the iPhone 6 Plus camera manages. Huawei has also included an independent image processor, which it claims is DSLR-quality. The ISP takes care of noise reduction, automatic scene recognition, advanced face recognition, better white balance and exposure.

The camera only records 1080p video though, which is a letdown for a 2015 flagship. At least you get an 8MP selfie camera.

The Huawei P8 is powered by a Kirin 935 chipset. An octa-core Cortex-A53 processor delivers performance at a lower power usage. The company promises its flagship lasts 2.3 days, regardless of how many apps you have installed. Heavy users can expect 1.5 days, this is on a 2,680mAh battery.

The Huawei P8 uses the company's new Signal+ tech. It features two antennas (one on top and one on the bottom) and it can switch between them in just 33.5µs so your calls and data connection are not affected. The phone takes the best out of local networks with Wi-Fi+ which will automatically pick the best Wi-Fi signal.

Two antennas, two SIM slots too. The second slot is a nanoSIM/microSD combo so you can pop in a local card when you travel abroad and use more storage at home. Both SIM cards can use 4G LTE.

Huawei will offer a number cases for the P8, but most interesting is the e-ink cover, which adds a 4.3" display that's perfect for reading out in the sun.

The Huawei P8 will be available in two versions, differentiated by storage and color options. The 16GB model is €500, while 64GB costs €100 extra. Europe, the Middle East and South Affrica will be the first to get Huawei's new flagship.

Huawei is finding a hard time keeping the upcoming P8 flagship under wraps. The handset went as far as showing up in live images a few days ago and now a promotional poster has been leaked revealing its color options.

Apparently the smartphone will be available in a choice of 4 colors, with black, white, silver and gold models pictured. The black bar on the top of the smartphone's rear, at least on the gold model, does not look like a particularly stylish design decision though.

The poster is yet another confirmation of the smartphone's premium build showing the slim 6.6mm profile and extensive use of metal. The smartphone is set to pack a proprietary Kirin 935 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a 5.2-inch FullHD display.

What it doesn't disclose is whether the smartphone will have a fingerprint reader of any sort. Previously leaked cases suggested a rear mounted unit, much like on the Ascend Mate7, but TENAA certification ruled that out and the latest rumor is that the feature will be implemented in the tiny power button on the side.

The Huawei P8 is set to debut tomorrow, so the wait is almost over, and we'll soon have official word on all the uncertainties in terms of the flagship's design and features.

Huawei is set to launch the new P8 and P8 Lite smartphones on April 15. A recent promo video teased the P8 smartphone briefly and left many wondering what the final product would actually look like.

Alleged Huawei P8 prototype poses for the camera

Alleged live photos of a Huawei P8 prototype made the rounds online. The Chinese tech giant’s next flagship smartphone will make its official debut next week, on April 15.

The images reveal the upcoming smartphone in a case, which is designed to hide its identity. Manufacturers usually ship unannounced devices to in such covers to wireless carriers for testing.

A shot of the device’s settings menu reveals its specs. They include 1.8GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in memory, and 1080p display. The OS on board is Android 4.4. with EMUI 3.0.

Past rumors have pointed a 3GB of RAM for the device, though we won’t be surprised if Huawei offers different memory variant as it has don't in the past.The lower amount of RAM could also mean that the device in question is the previously leaked Huawei P8 Lite.

So far, it seems that Huawei P8 will be available in a number of different variants. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long to find out what the company has in store.

Huawei teases the P8 in a promo video

A mysterious man, dressed in a black hooded cape, walks around the world gathering light in a new promotional video released by Huawei. The official launch of the company's next flagship, the Huawei P8, is set to take place on April 15 and Huawei is creating the all-important hype before the event.

What we could try to read into the video, titled "Capture the wonder of light", is that the P8 may come with improved available-light shooting capabilities. So far it has been rumored that the P8 will sport a 13MP main camera, but no info has surfaced on the lens aperture. It will be interesting to see what the company's engineers have managed to fit in the slim 6.6mm body.

Other than that, the Huawei P8 is said to pack a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. In latest news, insider info claimed that a yet-unannounced Kirin 935 chipset will find its place within the P8, but that remains to be seen.

Huawei has been pretty subtle in its marketing campaign for the P8, kicking off with an image emphasizing on battery life. The battery inside is a 2,600mAh unit, so will need to see how that plays out.

Another set of images followed, highlighting the P8's stronger screen, perhaps indicating the use of Corning's latest Gorilla Glass 4. The camera took center stage in the next poster, while an ambiguous calculator with currency symbols suggested an attractive price point.

Huawei P8 tipped to feature a Kirin 935 SoC, new GPU inside

The Huawei P8 is less than 10 days away from becoming official on April 15, but piece by piece the puzzle had been almost completed. Until a couple of days ago though, when new info popped up about the SoC, powering the high-end device.

Until then it was believed that the chip of choice was the Kirin 930, found in the MediaPad X2 tablet. That one comes with a an octa-core big.LITTLE configuration of sorts, with four Cortex-A53e powerful cores, clocked at 2GHz, and another quartet of regular 1.2GHz Cortex-A53 cores.

As reports in Chinese media indicated though, the P8 may come with more powerful Kirin 935 silicon, which is now revealed to have its performance cores ticking at the even higher 2.2GHz. Additionally, insiders claim that a new GPU may be utilized, as opposed to the Mali-T628 inside the Kirin 930.

The Kirin 935 was not mentioned in previous reports on Huawei's in-house chipset lineup. That may lead us to believe that it's a minor last-minute upgrade to the Kirin 930, to attempt to put it on par with industry leaders in the face of Samsung's Exynos 7420 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. The wait is drawing to an end though, and we'll soon get the confirmation we need on the matter.

Huawei P8 shows up in another set of leaked images

The hotly-anticipated Huawei P8 is due to be revealed in less than two weeks from now, with alaunch event scheduled for April 15. As the wait is drawing to an end though, we're now being treated to another batch of photos revealing a few details of the smartphone's body.

The surrounding metal frame is the centerpiece of the leak and apparently Huawei is pretty proud of its craftsmanship. A lathe blade is pictured, next to the finely chamfered edges of the frame, accenting its premium quality.

The recessed power button on the right side gets its own photo, together with the volume rocker. Rumor has it that the small button might house a fingerprint sensor, after the P8 passed TENAA certification without one on the back, which was the former concept. The main camera with its dual LED flash in the top left corner of the back is the focus of the third tiny image.

All these features nicely match the previously leaked schematics of the P8. You can also tell that the images belong to the P8 and not its smaller sibling, the P8 Lite, which sports a flipped camera/flash arrangement.

Huawei P8 Lite apparently portrayed in official renders

On April 15, Huawei is set to announce the P8, its next flagship smartphone offering. But it looks more and more like we might also be introduced to another device on that occasion.

We're talking about the P8 Lite, a handset that should keep the general looks of the higher-end P8, but come with lesser specs - and a more affordable price tag, naturally.

So far we've seen the purported P8 Lite getting certified for sale in China by TENAA, and that process resulted in a few low-quality images of the smartphone. Now though we're treated to what are said to be official press renders for the P8 Lite, which you can see above (click the thumbnails for full size pics).

The renders reportedly originate at an unnamed European distributor working with Huawei. That said, they could also be nothing more than fan-made renders based on those aforementioned TENAA images, there's no way of knowing right now.

Anyway, as you may have noticed, they show a metal body for the phone, and two color versions - though there may be more of course.

Alongside the pictures, the source of this leak tells us that the P8 Lite will have dual-SIM support and a price tag of €250 (sans contract, obviously).

Based on past info, it could sport a 5-inch 720p touchscreen, a 1.2 GHz octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13 MP rear camera, and a 5 MP selfie unit. It should launch running Android 5.0 Lollipop with Huawei's own Emotion UI on top.

Upcoming Huawei P8 reveals its specs during a TENAA visit

The yet to be announced Huawei P8 revealed its specifications in a TENAA certification filing. The Chinese giant’s next flagship smartphone is expected to make its official debut in a little over two weeks, on April 15.

As expected, the TENAA filing reveals the specifications of the upcoming device. They include a 64-bit Kirin 930 chipset with octa-core CPU, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of built-in memory, which can be further expanded via microSD card slot.

A 5.2” 1080p display and 13MP main camera will also be part of the setup. The device will boot Android Lollipop.

Huawei P8’s TENAA images reveal an slim body with metal frame and ultra-thin bezels. The smartphone is expected to carry a sub-$500 price tag when it hits the shelves.

Huawei details Kirin 930 chipset, says it uses enahnced A53E cores

Huawei made significant progress with its in-house chipsets and after the flop that the Kirin 910 turned out to be in the Ascend P7, the following iterations were markedly better. Both the Kirin 920 inside theHonor 6 and the Kirin 925 that powered the Ascend Mate7 proved to be strong performers.

Now with the Huawei P8 just around the corner, the Chinese company disclosed more detailed info on the Kirin 930 that is set to be the brains of the flagship smartphone, as well as the already announcedMediaPad X2 7-inch tablet.

Contrary to previous reports, the processor inside the SoC apparently features a reworked version of the Cortex-A53 cores, dubbed Cortex-A53E, which is clocked all the way up to 2.0GHz. Four of these are used as performance cores in the big.LITTLE setup, while four of the vanilla 1.2GHz A53's take on more casual tasks.

Huawei refrained from using the more powerful Cortex-A57 cores, because they provide a modest 56% performance increase versus a massive 256% increase in power consumption over the Cortex-A53, the company claims. Knowing how Huawei CEO feels on battery life, there's no surprise in the reasoning behind the choices made.

We're yet to get our hands on a working device utilizing the new SoC at the office, so we'll reserve judgement until that changes.

Huawei P8 dimensions revealed in factory schematic

The Huawei P8 should be unveiled on April 15, but details about the new flagship are continuing to trickle in. The latest are alleged photos from the factory that is working on the P8 and show a book of schematics with the exact measurements of the handset.

The Huawei Ascend P6, P8's granddad, was well-known for being super thin – 6.2mm in 2013. Its successor went up to 6.5mm last year and the new model is set to be 6.6mm thick according to these drawings. The exact dimensions are 144.9 x 71.9 x 6.6mm, compared to the 138.8 x 68.8 x 6.5mm of the Ascend P7.

The Huawei P8 will have a bigger screen than its predecessor – 5.2" vs. 5" – accounting for the taller and wider device. Current rumored info points to a 2,600mAh battery, a small upgrade from the previous 2,500mAh battery, too.

There are a number of changes on the back, including dual-LED flash for the single 13MP camera (no dual-camera like some early rumors suggested). Below that is a wide rectangle whose purpose is unknown but could be a fingerprint scanner like on the Ascend Mate7.

The loudspeaker has moved from its traditional place on the back and is now on the bottom. There are two strings of holes on the bottom, it's not clear if there's a speaker behind each or if one is just decorative.

The Huawei P8 should keep the screen resolution at 1080p (Huawei's CEO thinks QHD on phones isjust a waste of battery). The phone will be powered by the new in-house Kirin 930 chipset (also found on the MediaPad X2 tablet) and will be paired with 3GB of RAM.

Huawei P8 gets portrayed in new leaked image

Just yesterday Huawei decided to officially confirm the much rumored April 15 date for its next big announcement. This will clearly be when we'll see the P8 getting introduced.

And today we can reportedly take a look at the upcoming phone's metal frame, helped by the image below.

As you can see, for now our view is limited to the lower part of the back of the device, but the metal chassis is clearly noticeable, along with its chamfered edges. It's not entirely clear what material the back itself is made from, but we wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be glass (after all, metal frames paired with glass backs are apparently a sort of trend nowadays in the Android world).

One thing to keep in mind is that we're looking at a prototype here, so depending on how old it is the design may have changed somewhat. The P8 will come with two speakers it seems.
