The race to release USB-C smartphones is quickly heating up. One Chinese company has already unveiled the first Android device with a reversible USB port, and now a rumor suggests that Xiaomi could be following close behind.
According to Twitter tipster Upleaks, the popular Chinese phonemaker is already developing its own USB-C phone. The device will apparently pack a MT6795 MediaTek 64-bit octa-core processor. It’s also running Android 5.0, though we assume it will ship with Xiaomi’s own MiUI as well.
Xiaomi is actually expected to unveil a new smartphone next week at an event in New Delhi, but we’re not expecting that device to pack a USB-C port. Upleaks notes that the rumored handset is still in early development, meaning it likely won’t be ready until late 2015. By then it could be one of many new Android phones with a reversible charging port.
